Alumni Advocacy

Whether providing a world-class education, generating economic growth and new jobs, or working to improve California's healthcare – UCSD's impact is felt in the lives of all Californians.

UCSD's best advocates are its alumni. As an advocate, you can help support and defend the University of California on major issues pending before the state legislature and remind elected officials why protecting the UC is critical for our future
.

Take Action. Become a UCSD advocate.

Your Action Will Make it Happen

Dear UC San Diego Friends:

As a UC San Diego Alumni, you are one of our greatest advocates and assist us in continuing the local, national and global impact of the region’s leading public university. You understand first-hand the value of a UC San Diego education and its far-reaching impact in the world, from cutting-edge research on renewable energy sources, to nano-technology exploration, to advances in the social sciences and fine arts. Your collective voice helps to ensure that UCSD remains one the world’s premier institutions. If Alumni engage as Advocates, you can help shape decisions on public and UC policy, and your participation as an active supporter of UCSD lets our elected officials know why investing in UC San Diego is critical to California’s future. As our state and nation are in the midst of a serious financial crisis, UCSD is also facing a serious challenge. Since 1990, the state’s per-student funding of education at UC schools has fallen nearly 40 percent. Additionally, mid-year state budget cuts are now being proposed, which could mean a rise in fees and a reduction in funding for critical research projects and other vital initiatives in 2009. We recognize the severity of the state’s immediate fiscal situation, and it is vital that we let our elected officials know that UCSD is part of the solution. We are an economic engine adding $7.2 billion to our local and state economies. Become an advocate. Support UC San Diego. Help ensure that the hallmarks of a UCSD education will be sustained for generations to come and that we can continue to deliver our local impact, national influence and global reach.
