Parents and family members will be outreached to, and supported across the university through programmatic engagement and communication efforts. University-wide programs such as Family Weekend, First Year Send Offs, donations to the Parent Fund, and Admissions events will build and sustain relationships with parents and family members. Communication efforts such as responding to the Parent Helpline, parents@ucsd.edu e-mail, and the Triton Family Connection e-newsletter will create awareness of, and connection to the UC San Diego community. University-wide activities and efforts will consistently and continuously assist individuals to understand their role as a parent, guardian, or family member – that of a partner in the educational journey. The philosophy guiding university-wide events for parents and family members is that the relationship is cyclical, exists on a continuum, and has the lifespan of a student’s entire academic career at UC San Diego.
Parents and family members will also be connected to the university community by relationships with College-based officials and programs. The College structure of the university is a unique and special part of this culture and therefore, the Parent & Family Programs office supports and will assist with College-based efforts. Students and families alike identify with their College as “home base,” an entree into the university, and a place for assistance, concerns, or questions.
Parent & Family Programs serves to enhance College-based activities and contact. Programmatic efforts and outreach serve to further support, advise, and connect with parents and family members so to increase engagement in their student’s educational journey and the university community.
