Community Studies Major Suspended Effective Spring 2010
The Academic Senate's Committee on Educational Policy (CEP) has suspended the Community Studies major. This decision, which follows a lengthy period of concern, was made by CEP with input from the faculty and after consultation with the Dean of Social Sciences and central administration.
The suspension restricts new admission to the major for at least two years. Please be aware that new frosh and transfer students will not be able to pursue a degree in Community Studies at UC Santa Cruz.

Community Studies is an interdisciplinary undergraduate major, whose distinguishing feature is a full time field study of an organization with a social change/and or social justice mission. The major uniquely integrates scholarship and civic engagement through a core curriculum that both prepares students for the field study and enables them to analyze their experience in the context of broader political economic and cultural contexts. For more information about the major, please contact Undergraduate Advisor Joan Peterson.
MA in Social Documentation
The Master of Arts in Social Documentation is a two year graduate degree program focused on the development of student expertise in the understanding and production of social documentaries. For more information about the major, please contact the Graduate Coordinator Robert Valiente-Neighbours.
