Jake Blanc studying abroad

I am a history major with a minor in international migration studies. I have been involved in numerous organizations and projects over my four years, with my most consistent being both of my part-time jobs that I have held. I work for Outback Adventures in the rental shop and as an outdoor guide, helping support UCSD's outdoor community. I have also worked at the Guardian as a senior staff writer in the sports, news and opinion sections and this year have worked as the editor of the sports section, easily the most amount of work and responsibility that I've ever taken on. I have also been an active contributor to the study abroad community on campus, hosting a French language conversation table through I-House and speaking at various programs abroad events to help motivate students to study abroad; my year in France through a full immersion program was the highlight of my time here. I am also a part of the Mexican Migration Field Research Project run through CCIS and have worked with this bi-national research team on our year-long project to chart new patterns in Mexican migration and to better understand this evolving trend. Spending a month in Mexico doing anthropological field work and interviews has helped reshape what I hope to do with my professional life. I have also volunteered as an MMW peer tutor, helping 1st- and 2nd-years with the writing portion of the MMW program.
