Providing Video Services for the UCR Campus
The Video Production Unit (VPU) is the television and multimedia arm of the Office of Strategic Communications and is the primary source for original video and television programming presented by UCR.
Located in the lower level of the middle wing of Sproul Hall, the VPU facility is a great campus resource. It hosts:
- A television center, including studio space and post-production facilities, that produces broadcast-quality television programming for UC TV as well as internet and DVD distribution.
- The faculty portrait studio, taking head shots for university publication purposes
- Development of Motion Media, cutting edge Web-based video.
- A fiber-optic connection to AT&T’s Hollywood Hub, primarily utilized by the UCR Experts on Demand video program, that allows media from around the globe to interact with UCR’s experts instantly.
- UCR’s television outlet, broadcasting the systemwide UCTV channel on Charter Communications cable channel 95.
The VPU also provides selected coverage of campus activities and events as a part of Strategic Communication’s mandate to publicize events on campus. We welcome ideas from the UCR community.

An integrated Approach Office of Strategic Communications
The departments within the Office of Strategic Communications work together to promote you and your university.
From conception to delivery, UCR’s award-winning in-house design team help colleges and departments produce communication projects that tell your story to the world.
From advertising to publications, creative development to market research, the Marketing team is responsible for developing and implementing integrated marketing strategies that enhance the university’s image and reputation.
The Media Relations team communicates with media around the world to spread the news about what is happening at UC Riverside. They are also responsible for several publications, including UCR Magazine and Inside UCR.
The Web Development team is responsible for the design and upkeep of the award-winning UCR “Umbrella” Web site as well as oversight of the university’s overall online presence.
As a service to UCR faculty, we provide professional-quality headshots for university and personal use. Studio hours may vary. Visit the Portrait Scheduler to set up a time.
All projects produced by the Video Production Unit must be approved by the Office of Strategic Communications and are subject to available resources.
