These experts are at the forefront of their fields with impressive track records for achieving scientific, medical, and technological breakthroughs.
Our distinctively beautiful campus is both a magnet and a catalyst for acclaimed institutes and Nobel laureates. UC San Diego attracts stellar faculty, exceptional students, and outstanding staff. That makes a degree from UC San Diego invaluable, paving the way to prestigious graduate schools and rewarding careers.
U.S. News & World Report ranks UC San Diego as the 7th best public university in the nation, and 35th among the nation's top 262 universities. And one of the reasons is our renown faulty. Since its founding in 1960 on a spectacular 1,200-acre mesa overlooking the Pacific Ocean, UC San Diego has attracted a wide array of brilliant scholars - many of whom may be teaching your student!
In its short history, UC San Diego can count a total of 16 Nobel laureates who have taught, researched, and shared their knowledge on campus. Current faculty members also include Pulitzer Prize winners, Academy of Arts and Sciences Fellows, Field Medals and National Medal of Science recipients, MacArthur Fellows, National Academy of Sciences members and Tony, Academy Award, and Kyoto Prize winners, among other prestigious recognitions.
Each year, the UC San Diego Chancellor's Associatesdonor group recognizes the important contributions of the university's most exemplary teachers and researchers by presenting highly coveted awards for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and community service. "Faculty Excellence Awards honorees exemplify our tradition of excellence and innovation," said UC San Diego Chancellor Marye Anne Fox. "They are exceptional teachers, researchers, community leaders and campus citizens. I applaud their achievements and dedication to the university, and I congratulate them on this much-deserved recognition." Learn more about this year's recipients and view their videos on the Chancellor's Associates Web site.
In addition to our amazing faculty, there are many experiences outside the classroom that contribute to your student's education - and private support is a key source of revenue for those opportunities. Unrestricted support such as the Parents Fund is a special gift, offering a flexible pool of funds to maintain and strengthen the university's enriching programs and provide a pool of flexible dollars for our six Colleges. Your gift to any area that inspires you and your student will sustain the excellent educational experience that is truly priceless.

Research Spotlight: How many quarters/years does it take to graduate from UCSD?
Have you heard that it takes 5, maybe even 6 years to graduate from UC San Diego? According to Student Affairs' Research and Information statistics this assumption is false!
According to data from those students graduating in 2009, students entering from high school graduated in 13 quarters, or 4.3 years. This time-to-degree average has remained constant since the 2004 - 2005 academic year. Students who transfer from a community college complete their undergraduate degree at UC San Diego in 7.9 quarters, or 2.6 years. Since 2003 - 2004 this statistic has remain consistent as well, only fluctuating slightly on the number of quarters toward graduation (2.7 - 2.6). In both categories the majority of students graduate with a 3.0 - 3.5 grade point average.
For more information on how long it takes UC San Diego students to graduate, visit the "Time To Degree" Student Affairs' Research and Information Web site.
