Timex Puts Their Two Cents in and Comes Out with a Lot More

Cal Crouch didn’t choose Amazon WebStore to be the platform for Timex.com. “I inherited it,” says the Timex VP of Interactive Marketing and eCommerce. But when Amazon invited Timex to be one of the beta sites for its new WebStore platform, Crouch grabbed the opportunity.

Thinking Big Together

When the WebStore team started work on recreating the platform, they knew they wanted their customers to play a unique role in the process. “To have a chance to help shape the new WebStore was invaluable,” says Crouch. “Amazon really listened. We truly felt like partners, like they were genuinely trying to base it on what their customers were telling them—and we heard that from the other beta sites as well.” The collaboration paid off. The finished product is a platform that is uniquely designed to accommodate the needs of both established and growing businesses.

More Flexibility. Less Work. Big Savings.

One of the “must haves” on Crouch’s list was flexibility. “You have to be nimble in ecommerce—tactical and quick,” he says. “The new WebStore allows us to make wholesale changes on virtually every element of the site. What used to take a week now takes 20 minutes.” Overall, Timex has seen a 50% decrease in time spent improving and maintaining their site. They’ve also seen substantial cost savings. “We’ve

gained the flexibility to make most changes to content and look and feel ourselves,” says Crouch. “That’s saving us thousands in development costs.”

Numbers Don’t Lie

immediate lift of more than 40% in revenue, units sold and average order size,” says Crouch. “Those improvements have cooled a bit, but are holding steady at more than 30% over 2008.” Timex has also seen search times cut by 50%, abandon rate down 50% and conversion up 50%. “We have 1300 styles on the site and the new WebStore makes it easy for consumers to find what they looking for.”
