The Florida Story<\/h1>\n

The Florida Story is our story. It\u2019s the success story of a combination of reforms \u2013 rigorous academic standards, standardized measurement, data-based accountability, effective teaching, outcome-based funding and educational opportunity \u2013 improving the quality of education for students in the Sunshine State. \r\n\r\nFlorida was ranked nearly at the bottom of almost every measure of student performance when we started this journey. And now, Florida\u2019s fourth-graders are fifth in the nation in reading achievement and seventh in math achievement. Florida\u2019s A+ Plan 20 Years Later<\/h1>\n

On June 21, 1999, Governor Jeb Bush signed\u202fFlorida\u2019s A+ Plan for Education\u202finto law, beginning a systemic transformation that serves as a national model for raising student achievement.
