Building People Awards 2026 | Supreme Award Winner   The highest honour of the Building People Awards 2026 went to Brian Hayes of BESIX Watpac, named the GIB® (Winstone Wallboards Ltd) Supreme Award Winner at the Building People Awards 2026.   Brian's leadership on the One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha project delivered far more than an iconic piece of infrastructure. Leading BESIX Watpac's first project in New Zealand, he built a high-performing delivery team, earned the trust of project partners and the wider industry, and united more than 110 subcontractors behind a shared vision for success.   The judges were particularly impressed by Brian's ability to lead with integrity, humility, and purpose while delivering outstanding results under the intense scrutiny that accompanies a nationally significant project. Beyond Te Kaha itself, he invested in developing future industry talent through cadetship, apprenticeship, and university partnerships that have helped create lasting opportunities for the next generation.   The judges agreed that Brian's legacy extends well beyond the stadium itself, leaving a lasting impact through the people, capability, and collaborative culture he has helped build across New Zealand's construction industry.   #BuildingPeopleAwards

Sometimes good ideas simply start with a conversation, a fresh perspective and a willingness to ask, "Is there a better way?" Damaged plasterboard from GIB® (Winstone Wallboards Ltd)'s Auckland distribution centre is now getting a second life instead of heading for disposal, thanks to a lunchtime conversation that inspired an initiative focused on saving in more ways than one: saving waste, saving time, and saving money. Rather than sending damaged plasterboard offsite for disposal, the team now returns recyclable board to Winstone Wallboards' Tauriko manufacturing site, where it's processed and transformed into raw material for new plasterboard. In just two months, more than 32 tonnes of plasterboard has been diverted from disposal, returning recycled material to the manufacturing process. It's a great example of how innovation comes from anyone, anywhere. Congratulations to Nathan Marshall and the Auckland warehouse team for finding a solution that's delivering both environmental and commercial benefits.
