The emergency departments at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children\u2019s Hospital are both Level 1 Trauma Centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Level 1 is the highest level of trauma care available. Level I trauma centers offer 24-hour in-house coverage by general surgeons and prompt availability of care from specialists in orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology, internal medicine and critical care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This means that St. Louis Children\u2019s Hospital has the highest level of resources, specialists and programs available to treat your child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U.S. News & World Report has again ranked\u202fSt. Louis Children\u2019s Hospital, located on the WashU Medicine Campus, among America\u2019s Best Children\u2019s Hospitals. The publication ranked St. Louis Children\u2019s\u202famong the nation\u2019s best pediatric hospitals. The hospital has 465 licensed beds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital proudly serves the health care needs of families in St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren and Pike counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For more than 40 years, Barnes-Jewish St. Peters has provided exceptional care close to home. The hospital\u2019s comprehensive services include a breast health and women\u2019s center, cardiology center, outpatient surgery and endoscopy center and a Siteman Cancer Center facility on campus. It provides high-quality inpatient and outpatient medical care with specialty areas including cardiology, pulmonology, orthopedics and neurosurgery, along with emergency care, physical therapy, a sleep lab, infusion and cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation. Smaller than our main hospital, the Barnes-Jewish West County emergency department is easy to navigate, but still sees\u202fnearly\u202f18,000 patients annually. Patients needing inpatient admission are cared for in modern private rooms. Select subspecialty services are available, including general surgery, colorectal surgery, urology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, 24\/7 laboratory services, x-ray and CT scan. The hospital has a seven-bed emergency department with three semi-private bays. Physician, nurse practitioner and physician assistant teams specializing in emergency medicine are\u202fWashU Medicine\u202fspecialists. Northwest HealthCare, located six miles west of Christian Hospital, provides 24-hour emergency care staffed by WashU Medicine and St. Louis Children\u2019s Hospital physicians. Progress West Hospital\u2019s Childbirth Center offers a Level 2 Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) that can provide care for premature babies born as early as 31 weeks while keeping mothers and babies together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
