As CEO of a multinational operating across dozens of countries, Sofia Correia de Barros has seen the same AI tool land completely differently from one clinical team to the next. At the UpHill Summit, the CEO of Diaverum put the emphasis where it's too often missing: on change management, not technology. Some teams adopt a tool well - with the training, the support, and the follow-up that make it part of daily practice. Others are simply handed the tool and left to figure it out.

UpHill Health
Sistemas de suporte à decisão clínica (SSDC)
UpHill is a clinical pathway software that integrates with existing hospital information systems to automate tasks and bridging gaps in care. With UpHill orchestrating care, hospitals have a comprehensive view of their patient's status throughout their journeys as individuals and as a population, including past history and expected next steps. The software is applicable to multiple hospital areas, from the Emergency Room to the Operating Room. To ensure rapid delivery of value in implementation, UpHill has a library of template pathways, based on the best evidence, to be adapted to the reality of the units and validated by their clinical teams.

"The way we need to embrace this increase in demand is to look at how we allow patients to have their autonomy back, their own decision making, rather than assuming that everyone needs an assessment." Gareth Stuttard, National Clinical Lead for Urgent and Emergency Care at NHS England, shared this view at the UpHill Summit - a reminder that rising demand doesn't have to mean more gatekeeping. Sometimes it means less of it.

The healthcare landscape isn't short on ideas about what's possible. It's short on capacity to test any of them. At the UpHill Summit, Gurnak Singh Dosanjh, Deputy Chief Clinical Information Officer at NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, made the point plainly: services already running well beyond capacity can't afford to experiment with tools that don't solve a real, immediate problem. Listen the full voice and let us know your thoughts.

As technology takes on more of the process, the line between physician and engineer starts to blur. Listen to this Industry Voice episode to hear Isabel Vaz, CEO of Luz Saúde, share a leadership perspective from one of the region's largest private healthcare groups on where medicine is actually headed.

Some voices say AI will need fewer doctors. Prof. Akira Poncette Poncette says the opposite. At the UpHill Summit, the chariteberlin physician made the case that working well with AI in medicine doesn't call for less clinical experience. The more capable the tool, the more expertise it takes to know when to trust it, when to question it, and when human judgment has to take over. Do you agree?

What does it take for AI to actually work in healthcare? At the UpHill Summit, Manuel Pérez Vallina, former CIO of Servicio Cántabro de Salud, broke it down to four things: - Trust: clinicians need to believe in the system before they'll rely on it - Relevance: not all the data, just the data that matters - Usefulness: insights that actually help - Action: turning that insight into something that changes what happens next A clear roadmap for what AI in healthcare should actually deliver.

Today our Industry Voice is Michael Quinn. At the UpHill Summit, the Principal Clinical Consultant at BT Group, challenged the room to rethink old assumptions: maybe we don't need to do things the way we've always done them. What we do need is to connect the dots between systems, between data, between where patients actually go for care.

A Computer-Use Agent is an AI agent that operates a computer the way a person does. It opens the application. It moves through the screens. It reads what is on the page. It clicks the buttons. It types into the fields. It places the order. And above all it makes sure that UpHill reaches your patients' information even when the EHRs were not built to be integratable.
