Contributed speedup: SpellChecker::Corrections() and GetComment() went through the whole list of names with the same first letter for every lookup, often tens of thousands of names. Now the names are sorted once when they are first needed, and the matches are found by binary search, in the same order as the list would give them.
Contributed speedup: Spellcheck/sc_name_read read the file four times, once per name type. Now it is read once and each line goes to all four spellcheckers, so they end up exactly as before. No change to the class layout.
Contributed speedup: Reading the spellcheck file called ftell() for every line (a system call each time), and strTrimRight() checked every character of each line instead of going back from the end.
Contributed speedup: The name and flag statistics are counted in flat arrays and stored once per name.
Contributed speedup: The index is read with one fread() per block instead of getc() per field, and the progress bar is redrawn by time instead of every 20,000 games.
Contributed speedup: spellHash() only looks at the first four characters, so with spelling.ssp many names share one bucket, and recalcEstimatedRatings() was spending about 6 seconds there. It now hashes the whole name, with a larger table.

Bug DGT Pegasus
I spoke to Graham (board engine author) and he reckons "I'm using a Pegasus in SCIDvsPC now and it's working fine. To have a problem recognising pieces means it's likely a hardware or communication issue. ... More likely is either a faulty board or interference. eBoards sometimes don't like being near metal (eg metal tables) or other objects that might interfere. Also, depending on his PC/BT adapter he might have the board too far away. I did have somebody with that problem once as their USB BT device...
Some board / arrow shape refinements.
Bug DGT Pegasus
Allow Graham's device driver 'engine' to run alongside fics.
I have played with Scid 5.2 which does use the new database format. Using opening trees on big databases is lightening fast. Truly quicker than anything I've ever seen on any chess program commercial (i.e. Chessbase or Hiarcs chess explorer pro) or opensource. It does come at the expense of a much less polished UI (at least to my mind) and less feature rich so would never be my go to program. But I might use it to manipulate large databases
Hmmm - scidCommunity DND fixes. Still fairly broken feature.. Notebook tabs are just too much for CoordsToWindow it seems.

Update themes to sa-1.1 / ttkthemes-3.3.0

Hello Steven, Sorry, but I don't see a file named win.tcl. I re-downloaded the latest version of scidvspc 4.27 for Windows 11 and still don't see that file " /tcl/utils/win.tcl"; the win.tcl file simply doesn't exist. I checked several .tcl files but couldn't find those lines. I also entered the commands from your message above. I don't understand what's wrong, other than the missing file. Otherwise, how do I compile on Windows 11? I don't know anything about it. I have some other IT knowledge (SSH,...

I don't know why this restriction is in place, and have removed it. You may either checkouut subversion and recompile, or remove these lines from the gui / tcl/utils/win.tcl if {$tree_count > 1} { tk_messageBox -title Scid -icon question -type ok -message "Cannot save layout with multiple Trees." return 0 } Which will work, but doesn't have the full error checks i added to svn. https://sourceforge.net/p/scidvspc/code/3655/
Allow multiple tree windows in saved layouts.
Options->Save Layout Options->Save Bases as default But hmm, i'll have a look at that multiple trees error.

Options->Save Layout Options->Save Bases as default
Hello, Yes, it would be great to be able to automatically load a bunch of game trees and windows at startup, so I don't have to spend several minutes doing so every time—it would really help me work efficiently. As a professional, I’d find this very useful, and I’m sure many other serious users would too. I switched from Scid to Scidvspc because I use a DGT Pegasus (a connected board), and it works well. Best regards,

Sorry, only Intel CPUs are currently supported. I have clarified this today in some of our doco. S.A.
Doco tweak.
Progressbar fix for base/file open. Gah.

As I said, my system is Arch + GNome 50 with Wayland (No X support from GNome). I'm happy with the GUI now. Thank you
Ok, cheers. Just looking at your screenshot, i see you might be using Wayland, as the switcher fonts aren't correctly padded. Try using X instead. And you have an "Event" stored as a precomment tag ! ?? instead of properly saved in the Event field.
Document Wayland bugs.
Much better! Thanks! :-D
The 4.27 sourcecode has been updated too, with this GUI change included
