Hereโs a strong case for investing in collective defense in Government Technology, highlighting programs in Michigan, Texas, Florida, and Indiana that have proven to be force multipliers for protecting the public sector from cyberattacks. Indiana's Cybertrack program, a partnership between Indiana University Bloomington's Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research, Purdue University's cyberTAP program, and the Indiana Office of Technology, connects local governments with university experts who offer no-cost, practical assessments. Our Deputy Director Craig Jackson co-founded the Cybertrack program and continues his collaboration with Indiana University and Purdue University through his work at CLTC. โThese programs are the strongest case for federal support, not an argument against it. Each shows what's possible when one entity works for the benefit of many, and how much more could be covered if legislative efforts, like the bipartisan push to renew and fund the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program, catalyzed more of them.โย Now think of the potential of these programs when scaled nationally. Last Thursday at the Cyber Civil Defense Summit: Central at LSU, Arkansas State CISO Gary Vance participated in our first mainstage panel discussion, Whole-of-State Cybersecurity in Home Rule States. Vance has been working hard to develop statewide policies as head of its State Cybersecurity Office (SCSO), which unified 15 state agencies into one when it was established just over a year ago. And the harder work lies ahead: extending minimum security standards to Arkansas's 75 counties, each with independent leadership. With the state experiencing increased cyberattacks and still reeling from a 2022 ransomware attack on a single third-party vendor that knocked out services across 55 counties for three months, Vance reports that Arkansas is moving toward a whole-of-state cybersecurity approach. Thank you to Rae DeShong for expertly leading this panel discussion and for your reporting on the progress being made in Arkansas toward collective defense. ๐ Read the article: https://lnkd.in/gWknRAs4 #CyberCivilDefense #Take9

๐บ The Cyber Civil Defense Summit: Central was on Baton Rougeโs WAFB Channel 9 TV news last night! Check out their footage and article for a glimpse into our event at Louisiana State University yesterday. Youโll hear from cyberdefenders coordinating across sectors and across states to better protect citizens from cyber threats. Hear from Ronald Gibson, III, a student working at LSU's cybersecurity clinic; Gary Vance, Arkansas State CISO; Greg Trahan, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Strategic Research Partnerships for Louisiana State University (LSU); and Ann C., CLTC's Executive Director. Gibson shared how important it was to get everyone on the same page and why events like this one can make a difference: "Just breaking down that communication barrier, even breaking down legal barriers, is a big help towards, you know, getting us all towards a safer future.โ ๐ Watch here: https://lnkd.in/gbJt3EPv #CyberCivilDefense #Take9 UC Berkeley School of Information

We are kicking off the Cyber Civil Defense Summit: Central at LSU! CLTCโs Public Interest Cybersecurity Program Director Sarah Powazek opened CLTCโs third and final regional summit along with Robert Twilley, Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development at Louisiana State University, who gave us a warm welcome to campus. He shared that cybersecurity is one of their most important research topics, as a public research university with a mission to protect the stateโs most important assets. Chief Warrant Officer Joshua (JTan) Tannehill, CISSP, Commander of the Louisiana State Guard Cyber Reserve, shared three calls to action for attendees: 1. The relationships you develop matter. People in cyber really want to help people, so introduce yourself to others and try to nurture those relationships over the next year. 2. Find a volunteering organization and go get involved. 3. Find him on LinkedIn and before you leave today, send me a message about what youโre going to do in 2027 that you discovered here. It's great to be in Baton Rouge with this amazing community of cyber defenders. More soon.... #CyberCivilDefense #Take9
