More than 3 GW of data center load dropped off the grid in seconds in July. The trigger was a transmission line fault. The next one may not be. Speaking with Latitude Media, Dragos Field CTO Phil Tonkin explains why: when a load that large disappears suddenly, it can destabilize the system. That makes data centers, and the controls that decide when they disconnect, a target for adversaries whose tools are getting more capable. North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) already flagged large-load reliability with a rare Level 3 alert in May. For electric operations and engineering teams, the cyber side belongs in the same conversation. Large loads are now part of the grid's threat model. Most OT defenders don't get to practice incident response skills until a real incident puts them to the test. The Dragos Capture the Flag gives you 48 hours to sharpen those skills with the kinds of evidence practitioners encounter in the field: phishing emails, Windows event logs, ICS protocol PCAPs, and PLC logic. It runs October 28 to 30, fully virtual, with challenges for every skill level. Compete solo or with your team and play on your own schedule. Two weeks out. Nobody in operations wakes up thinking "I need more cybersecurity." They wake up thinking about safety, uptime, and keeping the system running. That's the starting point for Building Resilient OT Environments, the final session in Eaton's Cybersecurity Perspectives series. Phil Tonkin, our Field CTO for the global electric sector, joins Belden Inc.'s Alexandre Peixoto and Fortinet's Bill Morgan, with Eaton's Matthew Cosnek moderating, to discuss: - When an asset inventory is operationally useful, and when it's just an expensive spreadsheet - Building defensible architectures in brownfield environments - Why OT security can't be a one-time project Join the virtual roundtable on October 26 → https://hubs.la/Q04zZx760 #OTsecurity #OTcybersecurity #ICSsecurity #cybersecurity

It’s your first day on a new OT network, and you’re eager to start making an impact. You know the work: how to investigate an alert, how to manage vulnerabilities. You just don’t know this environment yet: what’s critical, how it’s organized, what’s safe to touch. Join us Thursday for the final episode of A Day in the Life series: The New Employee. See how Dragos EmberAI Skills help a new teammate get oriented fast, spot a high-impact opportunity to add value, and build a real plan, all without disrupting critical operations. Safeguarding the infrastructure civilization depends on requires a deeper understanding of everything that powers it. With NetRise and runZero joining Dragos, that mission now reaches from discovering assets to understanding the firmware and software inside them. Join Dragos's Robert M. Lee, runZero's HD Moore, and NetRise's Thomas Pace on Monday, October 19 to hear what these teams bring together and what it means for your security program. Attackers are experimenting with AI. Defenders are putting it to work. And in less than four weeks, we’re bringing the research to DISC 2026. AI-generated tooling observed targeting ICS. The challenge of building AI that understands OT. And what happens when you put AI to work finding vulnerabilities in your own products and infrastructure. Hear directly from Jimmy Wylie, Carolyn Ahlers, Sam Hanson, Alex Larson, and Garrett B. as they share what they’ve observed, tested, and learned about AI in industrial environments. November 4-6 | Hanover, Maryland DISC is free and exclusively for OT asset owners and operators. Sessions will not be available virtually or on-demand. AI-enabled attacks on critical infrastructure are no longer theoretical, and defenders can't afford to work in silos. Dragos has joined Anthropic's Critical Infrastructure Defense Program, a partner-led effort to put frontier Claude models to work defending power grids, water systems, factories, and transportation networks. Collective defense isn't new to us. Neighborhood Keeper, OT-CERT, and the Community Defense Program rest on the same idea: critical infrastructure is defended better when practitioners share knowledge instead of each solving the same problem alone. Through the program, we'll turn what we learn into better detections, engineering guidance, and shared knowledge for the community. When we ask executives with OT environments what keeps them up at night, the answer is often "insider threats". Coincidentally, I started my security career researching insider threats, and was founder of the CERT Insider Threat Center. I used to find that answer puzzling because so many organizations have insider risk programs these days. Then I realized WHY this is so concerning: it's fear of the unknown. While insider threats in IT are well-understood, no one has ever done a comprehensive study of insider threats in OT. Good news! I dove in and have been working on just that for months. I wrote a guide for OT-CERT that will be published in our portal for all members based on every case of insider threat in OT that I could find. Hear about the cases: what did they do - who did it - what could have been done to prevent it or detect/recover more quickly? Find out what I learned on November 5 at DISC 2026, hosted by @Dragos Inc. in Hanover, MD where I'm presenting "OT Insider Threat: Understand it. Stop it." DISC is in-person only and sessions are not recorded. Save your spot → https://lnkd.in/gdMfi9P7 #ICSsecurity #cybersecurity #OTcybersecurity
