Indiana University announced Wednesday that it has received a record-setting $100 million gift that will expand graduate education at the Indiana University - Kelley School of Business in Bloomington and Indianapolis. The donation from IU alumni Jeffrey H. and Benita L. Thomasson is the largest gift from an individual party in IU history, according to the university. Kokomo Opalescent Glass, which has been in operation for nearly 140 years, said this month it has stopped manufacturing glass and has begun searching for a new owner. In a statement posted on social media Friday, the iconic Kokomo company cited rising costs, ongoing repairs, and “countless challenges” as the primary reasons for the move. Glass produced at the Kokomo facility can be found at The White House, The Vatican, the Chicago Cultural Center and Yellowstone National Park. Indianapolis-based developer RealAmerica says it remains committed to the Stadium Flats apartment project in downtown South Bend after a fire damaged the property Tuesday. “This is a setback for the project, but we will move forward, rebuild what is necessary and complete the development," President Michael Surak said. RealAmerica is still assessing the damage and does not yet have an estimate of the losses. Stadium Flats is a $23 million apartment development with 92 market-rate units.
