  • A new federal education tax credit is scheduled to become available in 2027. Under proposed Treasury and IRS regulations, eligible taxpayers may claim a nonrefundable federal income tax credit for qualifying cash contributions to approved Scholarship Granting Organizations. The potential credit is: • Up to $1,700 per eligible taxpayer • Up to $3,400 for qualifying married couples filing jointly • Available for qualified contributions beginning January 1, 2027 The scholarship organizations and participating states must meet federal requirements, and taxpayers will need the appropriate contribution documentation. New York residents may potentially contribute to an eligible organization in another participating state, even if New York does not elect to participate. IRS Help can explain the proposed rules and help taxpayers determine how the credit may fit into their 2027 planning. • Could your business be overlooking a valuable tax credit? New rules for 2026 have expanded the Paid Family and Medical Leave Tax Credit, creating additional opportunities for small-business owners. What's changed? • Businesses may qualify based on eligible insurance premiums, even when no employees take leave. • State-mandated leave may now help satisfy eligibility requirements. • Certain corporate owners receiving W-2 wages may qualify for their own paid leave. Eligible businesses could receive a federal tax credit of 12.5% to 25% of qualifying paid leave wages. Even if you've considered this credit before, the new rules deserve another look. Before you overlook a potential tax-saving opportunity, let's talk. IRS Help can help determine whether your business qualifies. • You’ve built something valuable: perhaps a rental property you’ve held for 20 years, a business worth seven figures, or a block of stock in the private company you helped grow.   Now you want out, but there’s a shark in the water: the moment you sell, the IRS takes a huge bite out of your profits. Capital gains taxes can easily shred a quarter or more of your windfall before you can reinvest a single dollar.   What if you could sell today, defer that tax bill for years—even decades—and put the full pre-tax proceeds to work immediately?   That’s what a deferred sales trust (DST) is designed to do. And if you own highly appreciated real estate or a closely held business, you need to investigate this strategy before you sign a single closing document. • Disposable income is one of the most important factors the IRS uses when evaluating a payment plan. Using information from Form 433-A and IRS financial standards, the agency determines how much you can reasonably afford to pay toward your tax debt each month. IRS Help prepares the financial analysis required for IRS payment plans and helps taxpayers structure affordable payment options. Depending on the situation, the team may also evaluate whether a bank loan with a lower interest rate could be a more affordable option than continuing to pay IRS interest. A thorough financial review can help identify the most practical and affordable path toward resolving IRS tax debt. Whether you’re in Buffalo, NY, or anywhere across the U.S., IRS Help provides trusted support for individuals and businesses dealing with IRS issues, back taxes, and compliance challenges. • If you owe less than $50,000 to the IRS, you may qualify for a streamlined payment plan. In many cases, the balance can be spread over up to 72 months, making monthly payments easier to manage. Some taxpayers may also qualify for penalty abatement that reduces the total amount owed. IRS Help reviews each taxpayer's account to determine eligibility for a streamlined payment plan and potential penalty abatements that may reduce the total balance owed. Understanding all available options can reduce both the cost of your tax debt and the stress of resolving it. Whether you’re in Buffalo, NY, or anywhere across the U.S., IRS Help provides trusted support for individuals and businesses dealing with IRS issues, back taxes, and compliance challenges.
