My new article is up on The New Stack! It looks at a finding from the Future of Platform Engineering report: platform teams that mostly build from scratch are about 3.5x more likely to say they lack a clear strategy (57.9%, compared with 15.6% for teams building on templates and 16.7% for teams using existing tools). That doesn’t mean building from scratch is a bad idea. Some features need to be built around an organization’s own context. The problem is building from scratch by default, without a reason. This matters more now that coding agents can build an internal tool in a day.
