Nicole Jean Christian, executive director of the Uniondale Community Land Trust Inc. and an economic development consultant, has been named to the Mather Hospital Board of Directors.

Over the past 15 years, Ms. Christian has written grants for local municipalities, educational institutions and non-profits to secure funds for storm recovery, waterfront revitalization, capital improvements, entrepreneurship training, downtown community development, and technology, leveraging more than $20 million in public investment while helping to create thousands of local job opportunities.

“I am both honored and humbled to be appointed to the Mather Hospital Board of Directors,” Ms. Christian said. “Working together to heal and recover from the tragedy and impacts of COVID-19 our collective strength will provide the support we need. In these challenging times I look forward to working with the board to develop strategy and solutions to deliver quality care when our neighbors need it most.”

She formerly served as a part-time New York State certified small business advisor at the Stony Brook University Small Business Development Center, as an assistant to the director of affordable housing and intergovernmental affairs analyst for the Suffolk County Department of Economic Development and Workforce Housing, and as deputy commissioner of community development for the Town of Brookhaven. She is an associate adjunct lecturer at Long Island University School of Business, Public Administration and Information Sciences.

Ms. Christian is president emeritus of the Greater Gordon Heights Chamber of Commerce, chair of the Brookhaven NAACP Environmental Justice & Climate Change and Membership committees, and a founder of EMERGE (Empowering Minorities through Education, Research, Government and Enterprise).

A resident of Coram/Gordon Heights, she received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Marymount University, VA, and a Master of Public Administration degree from George Mason University, VA.
