Mather Hospital earned its 15th top “A” rating from The Leapfrog Group for its efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S. No other hospital in New York State has earned more top ratings from Leapfrog.

Mather is one of only three Long Island hospitals and one of only 12 in New York State to earn the top grade for the spring 2020 rating period. The Leapfrog Group is an independent, national not-for-profit organization founded more than a decade ago by the nation’s leading employers and private health care experts that strives to make giant “leaps” forward in the safety, quality and affordability of health care in the U.S. by promoting transparency through our data collection and public reporting initiatives.

“As we face the incredible trials of COVID-19, it is gratifying to be acknowledged for our ongoing commitment to patient safety,” said Mather President Kenneth Roberts. “Despite the challenges we face, we continue to do everything we can to keep our patients, staff and community safe.”

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public. Founded in 2000 by large employers and other purchasers, The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant leaps forward in the quality and safety of American health care.
