Mather Hospital is using ultraviolet radiation in its fight against the COVID-19 virus and other pathogens.

Tru-D is a disinfectant system that uses ultraviolet light to destroy all spores, bacteria and fungus and is being used to fight the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The unit can disinfect an entire room up to 15 feet by 20 feet, including a bathroom within a patient room, from one position.

Mather has two units that are being used 24/7 to disinfect patient rooms, the Emergency Department and areas throughout the hospital. “Mather’s Environmental Services team deploys this technology as part of its overall COVID-19 disinfectant protocol. It had been used previously on a daily basis for other organisms and spores,” said Frank Christiano, director of Environmental Services.
