Halyna Chykyda, MD has been named to head up the Department of Hospital Medicine, more commonly known as the hospitalists.

Hospitalists are doctors, physician assistants and nurse practitioners who take the place of a patient’s primary care doctor while they are in the hospital. Hospitalists provide round-the-clock medical care to patients and have no outside medical practices, which allows them to respond quickly to test results and to begin or change treatments.

Dr. Chykyda has been an active member of the Medical Staff at Mather since 2018. She is a graduate of the Ternopol State Medical Academy (Ukraine) and began her medical career as an OB-Gyn physician in the Ukraine and then in London.

After immigrating to the U.S., she attended Mather Hospital’s Graduate Medical Education Program in Internal Medicine from 2015 to 2018. She served as Chief Resident and joined the hospital’s Hospitalist Medicine Department after graduation in 2018. She is board certified in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Chykyda is known for her excellent clinical and teaching skills. She has led the training for residents in Code Blue and Rapid Response Team (RRT). She has also worked in the outpatient setting for Harbor View Medical Services seeing primary care Internal Medicine patients.
