Mather Hospital’s Graduate Medical Education program (GME) has received approval for a new gastroenterology fellowship to begin July 2021. The new program will eventually have a total of six fellows, two in each of the program’s three years. The first two fellows will start on July 1, 2021.

“We are excited to see our programs maturing and celebrate our ongoing evolution toward an academic hospital that includes competitive fellowships,” said Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President Joan Faro, MD. “Thanks to the Northwell institutional and regional GME offices for all of their help and support.”

The new fellows will join the other residents and fellows in Mather’s GME programs in July, at which time the programs will have:

  • Internal Medicine –51 residents in the three-year program
  • Transitional Year – 17 new residents in the one-year program
  • Psychiatry –24 residents in the four-year program
  • Diagnostic Radiology –11 residents in the four-year program
  • Interventional Radiology –four residents in the five-year program
  • Hematology Oncology – three fellows in the three-year program

Mather Hospital’s GME programs are sponsored by the Zucker School of Medicine/Northwell Health. The Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology programs are sponsored by Stony Brook Medicine and will be transitioning to Northwell Health sponsorship this academic year.
