The Auxiliary Volunteers recently presented Mather Hospital with a $140,000 donation, the proceeds from their fundraising activities including the Thrift Shop, Gift Shop and calendar raffles. The funds were earmarked for Mather’s new Cardiac Catheterization Lab, scheduled to open next spring.

“On behalf of the Mather Family I want to thank the Auxiliary for their generous donation and continuing support of the Hospital,” said Mather Hospital President Kenneth Roberts. “Over the years the Auxiliary has provided financial support that has helped Mather fulfill its mission to provide quality health care to our communities,” said Mather Chairman Leo Sternlicht.

The Auxiliary earlier this year also presented three Junior Volunteers with $1,000 awards for their college studies based on academic achievement and volunteerism to the hospital. The college award recipients were Julianna Caputo, a senior at Mount Sinai High School; Daniela Galvez-Cepeda, a Comsewogue High School senior; and Timothy Hirdt, a senior at Miller Place High School.

The Auxiliary donation and junior volunteer awards usually are presented at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Party in April, which was cancelled due to the pandemic.
