Mather Hospital and community volunteers have come together
to make headbands that help ease the discomfort that comes with the prolonged wearing of face masks.

The volunteers simply sew on two buttons to a store-bought headband or four-inch piece of ribbon. The face masks then hook onto the buttons rather than onto the ears of the healthcare worker, making for a more comfortable fit.

Keri Dunne, director of Volunteers Services at Mather, said the headbands are being made by Mather’s adult volunteers, by the Long Island Sound Quilters community group and by Suffolk County Girl Scout Daisy Troop 607 from the Comsewogue School District.
