Install Friends App (Gwibber Rewritten In QML) In Ubuntu 13.04 Or 12.10

Gwibber, the microblogging client available by default in Ubuntu, has been rewritten in QML recently and is now called Friends App.

Also, Gwibber Service (the backend) and the Gwibber Unity Lens have been replaced with "Friends Service" and Unity Friends Lens and the new packages have landed in the Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail repositories for a while, but they didn't work properly, at least for me, until a couple of days ago.

Gwibber used to be installed by default in Ubuntu, however, the new Friends App isn't (though the Friends Lens is installed by default) available by default in Raring and I'm not sure if it will make it, but you can easily install it via Ubuntu Software Center. Below you'll find instructions for installing the new Friends App in Ubuntu 12.10 or 13.04.

Bizzly Twitter Extension For Google Chrome

As you probably already know, the official Google Chrome extensions website was officially launched. I'm not going to cover that, since probably every website already wrote about it and you won't read anything new, here.

I am, however, going to tell you about an amazing Twitter extension for Google Chrome: Bizzly.

Twidge: Command Line Twitter Client For Linux And MacOSX

twidge

Twidge is a command-line microblogging client for Twitter and Identi.ca. It is designed to be useful when you're sitting at a shell prompt.

While I prefer TTYtter, Twidge may be easier to use and also can be install with just one command.

To install Twidge in Ubuntu, open a terminal and paste this:
sudo apt-get install twidge

For other Linux distributions, search for Twidge in your package manager.

Twidge also works in Mac OSX. Here is what you need to do:

1. Install GHC: sudo port install ghc
2. Install Cabal: sudo port install hs-cabal
3. Update Cabal package list: cabal update
4. Install twidge with cabal: cabal install twidge
5. Run twidge: ~/.cabal/bin/twidge

Using a command line Twitter client can be very useful because you can use the power of a shell to tweak everything you need. For instance, you can scheduling future updates (with at), ignore certain updates (with grep), etc. You can see some thing you can do with Twidge, HERE.

Also, by default, Twidge will attempt to shorten URLs in your updates via the TinyURL.com service.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The waiting is over for some Twitter addicts. Twitter employee Nick Kallen has tweeted today, a month after the official announcement has been made, that "25% of all users have lists". Thanks to TechCrunch for pointing it out and for the screenshot!

So yes, some lucky people can now curate lists of Twitter accounts, thus being able to follow only people who are truly interesting for them. We haven't received one yet.

MahTweets: Highly Customizable, Plug-in Based Twitter And Facebook Client

Twitter To Integrate ReTweets By Default [Mock-Ups]

Today on Twitter’s API Announcement Group, details were released explaining how exactly the ReTweets (RT) will work and look like. The ReTweet is already central to sharing content on Twitter, but confusion and the mess surrounding the syntax have prompted them to build this feature.

“Retweet” will appear as an option at the end of any tweet. Clicking this will share that tweet in your Twitter stream, just like a normal retweet would. However, it will not come with the “RT @username” syntax we’ve come to recognize.

Here is a mock-up of the upcomming Twitter ReTweets:
