How To Completely Disable Mouse Acceleration In Linux

mouse

Some desktop environments don't provide a way to change the mouse acceleration (GNOME and Unity for instance), and even for those that do (like Cinnamon), you can't completely turn it off. Here's how to completely disable mouse acceleration in Linux (for Xorg).

Configure Razer Mice In Linux With Razercfg (Ubuntu PPA)

Razer Synapse, the official Razer configuration utility, doesn't work on Linux however, there's a tool called Razercfg that allows configuring some of the Razer mice settings under Linux.

How To Change The Mouse Scroll Wheel Speed In Linux Using imwheel [Quick Tip]

mouse

I've never actually needed to modify the mouse scroll wheel speed until recently, when I got a new mouse and I wanted to change the scroll wheel settings. That's when I noticed there's no such option in Unity / GNOME Control Center.

I searched for ways to change this under Linux and the easiest to use seems to be "imwheel", a command line tool that can be used to tweak the mouse wheel behavior and which, among others, can change the scroll speed of the mouse wheel, and I decided to share the information with you.

Pair Logitech Unifying Receiver Devices In Linux With Solaar

The Logitech Unifying receiver supports connecting up to six compatible wireless mice and keyboards however, only the device that comes with the receiver is already paired (and thus, only that device will work out of the box with the receiver).

Logitech provides a tool for pairing additional devices to the Unifying receiver but it's only available for Windows and Mac OSX so if you want to pair new devices or if you want to use a new receiver (in case you lose the old one for instance) and you're using Linux, you can use a third-party tool such as Solaar.

Solaar is a Linux tool that allows you to manage Logitech Unifying Receiver mice and keyboards, that comes with both a GUI and command line interface.

How To Change The Mouse Cursor Theme In Ubuntu With Compiz Enabled [Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx Or Newer]

There is a bug in the Compiz package in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx and as I read, in Maverick Meerkat too that doesn't allow you to fully change the mouse cursor theme. You only get the new cursor theme in some windows - just like some of you reported in the Elegant Gnome Theme Pack post we wrote yesterday. Until Lucid, this was easy to fix by setting the mouse cursor theme from the Compiz settings, but that option has been removed.

But you can still change the mouse cursor theme in Ubuntu, even if you have Compiz enabled:

Record Your Computer's Mouse and Keyboard and then Play It with Mouse Recorder Pro 2

mouse recorder pro 2

Mouse Recorder Pro 2 is a recording application which will record your computer movements. Mouse Recorder Pro 2 records your Keyboard and Mouse input. This allows the user to repeat an operation easily and fast. You can play what you have been recording whenever you like easier and faster. You will be able to edit what you have been recording for further development.

Don't let the "Pro" in the name fool you, this Windows-only application is free to use.

Reassign Your Mouse Buttons for Specific Applications

remap mouse buttonsX-Mouse Button Control is a Windows application to remap your mouse buttons. You can specify application-specific mappings, which means different applications will use each mouse button differently. This is useful for games which do not inherently support the extended mouse buttons, because you can map keys to each button. A large list of commands are available, including cut/copy/paste, media controls, simulated keyboard input, print screen, browser commands, and a lot others. Windows Vista users can assign Flip3d and show/hide sidebar to buttons.

Apart from the mouse button power-up it provides, X-Mouse can also save and restore your desktop icon layout with two quick clicks on its tray icon.

What's more, the list of functions available to map to is somewhat more comprehensive than the 32bit MS Intellimouse Software can handle, including things like:

Copy/Cut/Paste
Volume Up/Down/Mute
Media Player control
Send a custom keystroke sequence
Launch you email (or any) application.
Capture screen (or active window) image to clipboard.
Click-Drag [Sticky Buttons].

Requirements:

* A mouse and driver that supports 5 buttons. NOTE: If your mouse has 5 buttons but the 4th and 5th buttons don't do anything in XP64 by default - this probably wont work for you. This software relies on the driver to send the default 4th and 5th mouse button messages which in XP64 default to BACK/NEXT in IE. Actually, a 2 or 3 button mouse can be customised but is there any point?!
* Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008/7 x64 edition for the 64 bit version
* Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/7 for the 32bit version.
