  • I tried this app to convert text within a bunch of a few thousand xml files but not a single one can be converted with this tool. A message keeps telling me that all files were ignored despite the search expression was correctly found in all applicable files. The app keeps also telling me, that all files are binary. Is this the reason why it refuses to convert them? They are not binary files, but UTF-8 encoded, like every xml file is, or should be... So, useless for me, as I need a find and replace tool basically for xml files only. However, I found a tool similarly called "Find And Replace (FNR)". Much smaller exe file, no Java required, and worked instantly for me...
  • Once you figure out that you need to execute the FAR.bat file and not the FAR.exe file, it works absolutely great. (If you try to execute the exe file, it will promptly inform you that you that the Java runtime environment is missing. The bat file executes the FAR exe with the appropriate Java commands). Anyway, Find And Replace does a wonderful job at performing just about any find and replace function you can think of. And I can think of a lot. I would have given this 5 stars if it had been more obvious that you needed to execute the FAR.bat file to get it to work, thus I gave it one less star.
  • I used FAR while porting MSVC code to GCC. Nice tool for large nested folders and files.

  • It Works! Something KFileReplace has not done. Very simple to use. Self-Explanatory. launch from either command line or create a KDE launcher. easy. and did i mention, it Works! Thanks, Landis.

  • This can give you a dangerous feeling that you have looked for a string in and not found it when in fact the string really exists. In other words it has a few false negatives!
  • This is a very useful application. There is a functionality I would like to see: If I am looking for occurrences of a string in a set of source files, I would like to see these occurrences highlighted when I open the file from within FAR. Dont pay attention to DYCorp's review. That guy needs to learn about regular expressions.
  • did a recursive search of a single file under many directories . searched and replaced a string in those pom.xml files . it works! thanks for making the program. it will be great if the popup file viewer can highlight all the the search string.
  • This software can do batch regex replace on binaries with back referencing - and it is extremely fast
  • Very useful, you saved my life from wasting time :)
  • The name of the project is very misleading. I am using FAR for many years, it is for me like OS GUI. I do absolutely everything from FAR. I don't even know how to live without it. I guess, I was too much attached to Norton Commander in DOS :) So I thought this thing here was a FAR plugin and downloaded it. Turns out, it is an attempt to attract people by using the name of the most useful and most important Windows application ever... As to its functionality, I did not get around to testing it yet (hence 5 stars - for now) - still in shock because of its name - but it will be interesting to compare its capabilities with what UltraEdit can do - my 2nd favorite Windows application:)
  • Don't waste your time getting this app! Search results come back with extra files not matching the Content Pattern used. Example: Do a search for this content pattern "file.name", and FAR returns all files containing the text "file/name". Now that can really mess your system up.
  • No live preview, 90' app interface design, no search in results only, no multiple batch replace
  • Great! Saved me from a screw up I made. Made a dumb mistake on all the pages of a site. Just had to change one word in many pages. Worked like a charm. Thanks so much! PS I had to rate support and I did not need it, so I gave it a 5 anyway.
  • The only "find and replace" tool I have found which ... * Does not corrupt Windows files * Lists files before changing them It can also insert multi-line replacements. In all, a fantastic program, and an essential part of everybody's tool kit. Thank you. Notes for any future upgrades. - Needs a Windows installer, or you need to copy a shortcut to the start menu - Only the start of the directory path is shown, however it is usually the end which is more useful - Can be slow if 1000's of files in the directory and its sub-directories. Tested with "Windows XP SP3". (regular expressions not tested)
