How to use Mixboard

Explore, expand, and refine your ideas with Mixboard, an AI-powered concepting board. You can create, download, and publicly share entire boards, individual images, and presentations anywhere you’d like.

Important: Mixboard has safety measures in place that prohibit the generation of certain categories of content, such as precautions designed to protect minors. If we detect repeated policy violations, your account may be suspended.

Mixboard is shutting down on September 28, 2026

As an experimental Google Labs project, Mixboard explored new ways of creative expression. We have learned a lot from this experiment and are applying these learnings to future Google Labs explorations and creative tooling. You can explore our other active experiments at labs.google. 

After September 28, 2026, Mixboard (labs.google/mixboard) will be taken offline and all user data (including boards, generated images, and prompts) will no longer be accessible.

How to save your work

You can continue to use Mixboard to create, edit, and export until September 28, 2026. If you want to keep any of your creations, please log in and download them before the shutdown date:

  1. Go to mixboard.google.com/projects and open the project you want to export.
  2. In the top left corner of the canvas, click the project name or expand icon to view your boards.
  3. Next to each board within that project, click More  and then Download as PNG.
  4. A zip file containing all the images on that board is downloaded directly to your device. This will download a .zip file containing all the images on that board directly to your device.
  5. Repeat for any other boards or projects you wish to save.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I access my boards after September 28, 2026?

No. After September 28, 2026, the website will be taken offline, and you will no longer be able to access your boards or any data in Mixboard. You must download any creations you wish to keep before this date.

What will happen to shared links?

All previously shared board URLs and presentations will stop working after September 28, 2026, and will display a service shutdown notice.

What happens to my user data after shutdown?

In line with Google's privacy and data retention standards, all user data (including boards, generated images, uploaded assets, and prompt history) will be permanently deleted from Google servers following the shutdown.

Where can I find other Google AI creative tools?

You can visit labs.google to discover and experiment with other active tools from Google Labs.

How do I get help exporting my data? 

If you need assistance exporting your creations before the shutdown date, please contact mixboard-help@google.com.

Who can use Mixboard

To use Mixboard, you must meet all of these requirements:

  1. Be 18 years of age or older.
  2. Be located in one of our supported countries or territories.

Create new projects

  1. On your computer, open Mixboard.
  2. Click New Project.
  3. At the bottom, in the prompt box, describe your idea.
    • To pick an example prompt, under “Explore your ideas,” click a prompt.
  4. Optional: To upload a supported file, click Add .
    • To upload files from your device, click Upload.
    • To take a photo, click Camera.
    • To add files from Google Drive, click Add from Drive.
    • To import images from Google Photos, click Import from Photos.
  5. Click Generate .

Tip: Mixboard generates about 15 image blocks on your first prompt.

Supported file types & usage limits

  • Mixboard supports .jpg, .png, .heic, .webp, .tiff, .svg, and .pdf file formats.
  • We may apply usage limits to generations, uploads, and board creations.

Manage your project’s boards

  1. On your computer, open Mixboard.
  2. Open an existing project.
  3. At the top left, click Expand .
    • To create another board, next to “New Board,” click Add .
    • To rename a board, click More and then Rename.
    • To download a board, click
    • More and then Download board.
    • To delete a board, click More and then Delete.

Pan across your board

  1. On your computer, open Mixboard.
  2. Open an existing project.
  3. On the left, click Hand .
  4. Drag the board.

Add text to your board

  1. On your computer, open Mixboard.
  2. Open an existing project.
  3. On the left, click Text .
  4. Click where you’d like to add your text.

Share your board

  1. On your computer, open Mixboard.
  2. Open an existing project.
  3. At the top right, click Share.
  4. Turn on Link access.
  5. Click Copy link.

Export your board

  1. On your computer, open Mixboard.
  2. Open an existing project.
  3. At the top right, click Export.
  4. Select the format you’d like to export your board as.

Tip: More images and text on your board will improve your exported presentation.

Manage image blocks

  1. On your computer, open Mixboard.
  2. Open an existing project.
  3. On the left, click Arrow Selector .
  4. Click an image block.
    • To move the image, drag it to a different position.
    • To edit the image, at the bottom, enter a prompt.
    • To regenerate the image, click Regenerate .
    • To create more blocks like the image, click Create more .

    • To copy the image, click Copy .
    • To download the image, click Download .
    • To delete the image, click Delete .

Edit image blocks

  1. On your computer, open Mixboard.
  2. In an existing project, click the image block you want to edit.
    • To edit multiple blocks at once, hold Shift + click multiple images.
  3. At the bottom, in the prompt box, describe what you’d like to change. Examples of what you can prompt:
    • Change details: Ask Mixboard to change the colors, objects, or other details in an image.
    • Remix blocks: Ask Mixboard to combine blocks. You can add an object from one image to another or transfer styles.
      • For example, "Combine both images. Add the light to the room with the chair."
    • Reference anything on the board in your prompt: Mixboard understands the context on the board. Describe the blocks you want to change.
      • For example, "Combine the white light with the blue chair on top."
    • Generate text: Ask Mixboard to generate text. It will use context from the board.
      • For example, "Write a description about this couch."
  4. Click Generate .

Report problems or send feedback

  1. On your computer, open Mixboard.
  2. At the top right, click More and then Product Feedback.
  3. Enter your feedback.
  4. Click Send.

Privacy notice

Important: This notice and our Privacy Policy describe how Mixboard handles your data. Read them carefully.

When you use Mixboard, Google collects your boards (including any prompts and attachments you upload to those boards and generated content), feature usage information, and your feedback. Google uses this data consistent with our Privacy Policy, including to provide, improve, and develop Google products and services and machine learning technologies. Human reviewers (including trained reviewers from our service providers) review some Mixboard content for these purposes. Do not enter confidential information that you wouldn’t want a reviewer to see or Google to use to improve Google AI.
