@dnr1 The Setup and Specifications document for that system indicates that the USB-C port supports DisplayPort (video output) and Power Delivery (PD). Unfortunately the latter is unclear, since USB PD can be used in both directions, i.e. to supply higher power levels to attached peripherals and to draw higher power levels to charge the laptop. And some systems only support USB PD in one direction. If you can, I would see if you can find a regular USB-C charger that supports at least 45W output, since that seems to be the wattage of the power adapter that comes with the system. If the system charges via USB-C, then it would charge from an appropriate USB-C dock. And in that case, yes a WD19 would be a good choice. With that system you would be able to run dual displays up to 1920x1200 each or a single display up to 2560x1440. The D3100 definitely won't charge the system, and since the Dxxxx series docks use 'indirect display' technology called DisplayLink (not to be confused with DisplayPort), they can introduce drawbacks that I've written about in the post marked as the answer in this thread. The WD19 relies on a native GPU output.Note however that the WD19's Power button might not work to control your system. Dell only provides full docking station support for their business-oriented product lines, i.e. Latitude, Precision, XPS, and Vostro. Support for an external Power button requires firmware support in the system, and it seems that at least for a while, Dell has not implemented that on their Inspiron systems. I hope that will change, and it might have already (I don't keep up on Inspiron systems very closely), but just be aware that it might not work. The main functions of the dock would work fine though, i.e. video output, USB, Ethernet, audio, etc. -- and power as long as the system does support USB PD for charging.

We have a 5505 with the D3100 docking station. It requires 2 chargers. Disappointing to say the least. My old Latitude has the snap-on type docking station. One PSU powers everything. These USB3-type units are a step backwards for me.
