A fast answer matters. So does what happens next. Wrong address. Missing service details. No confirmation. A schedule that doesn't match technician availability. Small intake mistakes become expensive field problems. Good call handling isn't just picking up quickly. It's capturing the right information so the rest of the operation can do its job. What information does your team absolutely need before a job hits the schedule? #Avidus #Scheduling #CustomerService #HomeServiceBusiness

If you run field service, the work order tells you what was supposed to happen. Only the technician knows what actually happened. The gap between those two is where your operating knowledge lives. Which site has the panel that's mislabelled. Which customer contact actually has the key. What you check first at that plant because of something that went wrong two years ago and never got written down anywhere. None of it is in a system. It's in a truck, and it retires when the technician does. Here's the version of this that costs one day. Ride along. Good technician, normal route. Count the number of times he does something that isn't on the work order and doesn't get recorded. You won't need to build a business case afterwards. You'll have watched it. #FieldService #Operations #Manufacturing #IndustrialServices #KnowledgeManagement #FieldServiceManagement #OperationalExcellence #ServiceOperations #ProcessImprovement #OperationalIntelligence

Was the right part available? Was it in the right place? Were planning and execution working from the same priorities? When they aren’t, the impact shows up fast. Repeat visits, costly expedites, missed commitments, and unhappy customers. In fact, research shows that part unavailability is the leading reasons for second and third service visits. Better service starts upstream. Connect planning with execution so you can make smarter decisions around cost, risk, part availability, and customer impact. A technician arrives on time. The part doesn’t. Is that really a Field Service problem? Hidden Truth #2 from Anton Chilton's Missed Opportunities whitepaper challenges us to look upstream: service performance is an orchestration problem. Aberdeen found that incorrect or missing parts were the leading reason for a second or third service visit. Why does this matter? Because the customer experience is determined long before a technician arrives. Parts availability. Inventory positioning. Logistics. Installed Base data. Technician readiness. Customer commitments. Optimizing any one of them in isolation only gets you so far. The opportunity is to connect planning and execution so parts, people, processes, and data work together toward the same service outcome. The technician most times take the blame for a service failure that started long before the technician arrived. I have seen enough service operations to increasingly question this. Look at these scenarios; 1. A technician arrives without the right part. 2. The equipment history is incomplete. 3. The diagnosis wasn't clear. 4. The right skill wasn't assigned. 5. The job wasn't properly planned. Then the repair takes longer or requires another visit and suddenly it looks like a technician-performance problem. Was it?Though I would not totally absorb the technician especially when it comes to communicating properly on their findings or challenges. First-time fix doesn't start when the technician opens the toolbox. It starts with how well the organisation prepared that technician to succeed. Maybe there should be some deeper questioning than just blaming the technician. Before asking “Why didn't the technician fix it?”, perhaps leaders should first ask: “Did our system give the technician a fair chance to fix it the first time?” #ServiceLeadership #OperationalExcellence #FieldService #Aftermarket

By 2:55 PM, a field service dispatcher had made 38 calls just to find out where technicians were. One technician was running late. Two had finished their jobs early. Another had been redirected to an emergency call. The dispatcher needed to know who was available for the next customer. But there was no real-time view. So the phone became the tracking system. Every call took a few minutes. Multiply that across an entire day, and your dispatcher is spending valuable time collecting information instead of managing the operation. Live technician status, job progress, and availability can put that information in one place. Because dispatchers should be making decisions, not spending the day asking where everyone is. How many calls does your dispatch team make every day just to get status updates?
