95% is a number that makes me feel like we’re on the right track. Over recent months, we’ve been working with Modality Partnership, with support from Innovate UK, to test the Hesta Health Check with women across East Surrey, Birmingham and Yorkshire. We wanted to understand whether this approach could deliver clinical value, work in practice and, importantly, be valuable to the women and birthing parents using it. One early finding: 95% of women and birthing parents who took part had a better understanding of their own health after completing the Hesta Health Check. There’s much more to learn and much more we want to do, but this feels like a strong signal that we’re on the right track: building around women’s needs and improving health outcomes. But geography is only one part of the equation. Affordability, transportation, continuity of care, access to trusted providers, and the ability to navigate an increasingly complex healthcare system all influence women’s health outcomes. And those barriers don’t exist at just one stage of life. That’s why the October 4 WE Brunch is focused on the Continuum of Care — from maternal health to menopause. We’re bringing women, healthcare experts, and community resources together to move beyond identifying the gaps and toward something women can use: greater knowledge, stronger connections, and more confidence advocating for their own care. The University of Illinois-Chicago is launching a digital storytelling project to ensure that the voices and experiences of perinatal women are heard, elevated, and incorporated into ongoing maternal health prevention efforts. This project is a part of the federally funded Illinois Maternal Health Innovation (MHI) Program, which aims to improve maternal health statewide.  Through this project, Illinois moms will be supported through a group 6-week digital storytelling workshop to create their own personal digital story. The University of Illinois-Chicago is partnering with StoryCollab to facilitate the digital storytelling workshop and coach individuals in creating their digital stories. The first workshop took place in February- March 2026. The next workshop is taking place in October-November 2026, and we would like to prioritize participants and stories from outside of the Chicagoland area. Illinois women interested in the workshop should complete the web-based interest form or contact the team directly at momstory@uic.edu.

A new five-year strategy is setting the direction for the next phase of mature women’s health research at Sinai Health. The Weston and O’Born Centre for Mature Women’s Health has launched its inaugural Strategic Research Action Plan, building on Sinai Health’s longstanding expertise in women’s health to address important gaps in research and evidence for women in midlife and beyond. Women spend nearly half their lives after menopause, yet mature women remain underrepresented in health research. “Our aim is to create a world where mature women are considered in all health research,” says Dr. Paula Rochon, Director of Research at the Centre. Over the next five years, the plan will guide research that is more inclusive, collaborative and focused on translating new knowledge into evidence that can inform care for women as they age.
