Wellstar MCG Health and the Georgia Cancer Center celebrated the addition of the Gamma Knife Esprit, the latest advancement in noninvasive brain tumor and cancer treatment. With precision as accurate as 0.15 mm, this state of the art technology delivers highly targeted radiation therapy while helping protect healthy tissue. For many patients, that means fewer side effects, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery and renewed hope, especially for those who may not be candidates for traditional procedures.

At Wellstar MCG Health, the 500th Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure has been completed, marking a significant achievement for our cardiovascular team. This minimally invasive, lifesaving treatment for severe aortic stenosis involves replacing the diseased aortic valve to help restore blood flow and improve heart function and daily activity. These milestones are made possible by the trust of our community and the expertise, teamwork, and dedication of our cardiovascular specialists delivering accessible advanced, world-class care.

Local media outlets recently got a first look inside the future home of Wellstar Columbia County Medical Center, expected to open in late August. From advanced technology in every patient room to the operating rooms, This hospital was built with the future of healthcare in mind and with our community at the center of it all. This milestone reflects expanded access to care, growing services for local families and a commitment to meeting the needs of the region for years to come. While strokes have become relatively common—more than 795,000 people in the United States have a stroke each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention—many risk factors for stroke can be managed in partnership with healthcare teams. Our Cardio-Oncology Program supports people with cancer who have heart disease, are at high risk for heart problems or are receiving therapies that may affect heart function. By monitoring heart health and coordinating care, we help people receive the most appropriate cancer treatment while reducing the risk of heart complications. Personalized treatment plans may include imaging, blood tests and ongoing monitoring to detect early signs of heart conditions during chemotherapy, hormone therapy or radiation. Wellstar MCG Health is honored to contribute $20,975 to Paceline in 2025, an Augusta-based movement accelerating cancer cures through community and teamwork. Since its founding, Paceline has raised over $2 million and funded 33 research grants, with 100% of participant-raised funds going directly to cancer research at Wellstar Georgia Cancer Center. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to fighting cancer through innovation, collaboration, and community investment. We're proud to play a role in advancing groundbreaking research right here in Augusta.
