  1. Three Graduate Medical Education faculty members were chosen as recipients of the 2020-2021 Northwell Health Teacher of the Year award: Yassar Abdelbaki, MD, Internal Medicine; Michael Destefano, MD, Psychiatry; Zachary Kushner, MD, Transitional Year.
  2. David Schwartzberg, MD, named Medical Honoree by Long Island Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation for their Take Steps Walk and selected as a Super Doctors New York 2021 Rising Star.
  3. Maritza Groth, MD, named a 2021 Distinguished CHEST Educator by the American College of Chest Physicians.
  4. Marie Mulligan, PhD, RN, Vice President for Nursing/CNO, had her article “Perceptions of Authentic Nurse Leadership and Work Environment and the Pandemic Impact for Nurse Leaders and Clinical Nurses” published in The Journal of Nursing Administration.


Service:

  1. 2 East, 2 East Bariatrics, 2 South and Transitional Care inpatient nursing units received awards from Northwell Health for achieving top patient satisfaction scores in 2020.
  2. Northwell Health named to Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For® list for the second consecutive year, moving up to 19th from 93rd.
  3. For the second year in a row, Northwell was named to the Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America list, moving up from number 81 to rank number 2.


Quality and Safety:

  1. Mather Hospital’s cancer program received four-year reaccreditation from the Commission on Cancer
  2. Mather Hospital designated an Age Friendly Health System by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
  3. Hospital was named a Center of Excellence by the Infectious Diseases Society of America in recognition of our Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.
  4. Northwell Health named winner of the Health Care Association of New York State Community Health Improvement Award for Advancing Health Equity through Community-Based Partnerships to Fight COVID-19 community health program.
  5. Mather awarded the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get with the Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus with Honor Role Elite award and the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award in recognition of our quality patient care.
  6. Rated high performing in three adult specialties and five procedures and conditions in the 2021 S. News & World Report hospital rankings
  7. Mather completed a successful four-day Joint Commission Survey in November 2021.


Innovation and Growth:

  1. Mather’s New Graduate Nurse Transition to Practice program – also known as a nurse residency program – was reaccredited with distinction for four years by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
  2. Mather added a third da Vinci surgical robot to accommodate growing demand for robotic procedures.
  3. Mather opened its Cardiac Catheterization Lab on Tuesday, May 18, 2021.
  4. Mather’s Graduate Medical Education program received approval for a new gastroenterology fellowship beginning in July 2021.
  5. Mather’s Back & Neck Pain Center, Emergency Department and Radiology Department received international recognition for the acceptance and presentation of their studies at the Global Spine Congress in Paris, France.
  6. The Integrative Pain Management Program received the Katz Institute for Women’s Health Innovations Grant to pilot an integrative oncology clinic program.
