A new Mather is coming with construction underway

Mather’s master facilities plan has officially begun. Phase one of the plan, which began October 25, with the development of two new parking lots. This phase is expected to be completed by the end of January.

Phase two of the plan includes the relocation of our existing heliport, additional renovations to existing parking on the north side of the campus and creating a temporary entrance for the Surgery Pavilion. Phase two is expected to take approximately three months to complete. Once the temporary entrance is created, the existing Surgery pavilion entrance will be decommissioned, and the physician and patient lots right outside the Surgery center will be excavated for the foundation of the new Emergency Department and expanded Surgery center.

The new Emergency Department is expected to open in the first quarter of 2025.

Preparation for the hospital’s main lobby started January 3, 2023.  Phase one of the renovations consisted of “make ready” work. Some progress that has been made includes:

  • Moving the Emergency Department Aftercare next to the Imaging Services Reception Desk
  • Relocation of The Gift Shop to the Dining Room of the Coffee Shop
  • A temporary entrance is being created through Conference Room one.
  • Patient Access will vacate their office space in the existing Lobby
  • New entry doors are being installed in Patient Access (by the Coffee Shop) and the Imaging Services Administration Office, opposite the door to the E.D.

Completion of the Lobby renovation is expected to be around Memorial Day.

The new Lobby will include a new, relocated reception desk, security access-controlled entrance gates, new patient and visitor seating areas, and addition of public restrooms.

Additional projects in the pipeline include the installation of new patient TVs, nurse call system throughout the hospital renovation, and the renovation of the employee cafeteria. These renovations will feature an improved dining experience, with improved flow through the serving area, new booth and high-top seating options, enhanced lighting, themed walls, phone chargers, electronic menu boards and more.

Mather Hospital’s renovation projects support our focus on healing, teaching, and innovation, while enhancing the customer and team member experience. “We are excited to begin several key projects that will improve the experience for our patients, visitors, physicians, and our staff.  These projects will further enhance Mather Hospital’s reputation, which is an organization that cares for our employees, as well as one that provides the best patient-centered care to the communities that we serve,” says Mather’s VP of Administration Michael Burghardt.
