Joan Faro, MD, Mather Hospital’s Senior Vice President/Chief Medical Officer, and Joseph Ng, MD, Associate Medical Director, have taken on new roles as part of the hospital’s plan to foster growth.

Dr. Faro is now Vice President and Chief Clinical Growth Officer. Dr. Ng has been named the hospital’s  Medical Director.

“As market forces change the healthcare landscape around us, program growth and network development are vital to assuring our continued success,” said Executive Director Kevin McGeachy.

Dr. Faro joined Mather Hospital in 2001 on a consulting basis and quickly transitioned to a leadership role as Vice President of Medical Affairs and, ultimately, Chief Medical Officer. She is responsible for many new programs at Mather including the Hospitalist program in 2005 and the Intensivist program in 2008. She also developed the hospital’s Graduate Medical Education residency programs in Internal Medicine, Transitional Year, Psychiatry, Radiology and Interventional Radiology and fellowship programs in Hematology-Oncology and Gastroenterology.

Dr. Faro started Harbor View Medical Services in 2009 and has grown practices from Rocky Point to Stony Brook. She will remain President of Harbor. She will continue to partner with leadership at Mather and Northwell Health to further expand the hospital’s offerings both geographically and by specialty.

Dr. Ng joined Mather as an intensivist in 2009. He became Chief Medical Information Officer in 2010 and has been a leader in improvements to our EMR, Sunrise Clinical Manager, as well as supporting a myriad of IT innovations. In 2014, he became the first Program Director for Mather’s Transitional Year residency program. Dr. Ng was appointed an Assistant VP of Medical Affairs in 2019.

He has been Associate Medical Director since 2022, focusing on quality and performance improvement in many areas. He has had further training through the Physician Leadership Development Program.

Wayne Shattes, Vice President for Administration, also has taken on a new role supporting Dr. Faro. Mr. Shattes has been a valued member of Mather’s executive team since 1986. He will maintain accountability for Mather’s Bariatrics, Wound Care, and Hyperbaric programs and will continue to serve as ombudsman for the Graduate Medical Education programs.
