Market Essence and Competitive Analysis "Visiting and actively working in the market provides a ground-level understanding of the dynamic trade environment. It enables a firsthand assessment of competitor activities, consumer behavior, and in-store execution. A key observation is the aggressive entry of new brands that are rapidly gaining visibility and shelf space by offering higher trade margins to retail chains. This directly impacts the market share of established players by shifting retailer preference and promotional focus toward these high-margin newcomers. To stay competitive, it's critical to continuously analyze these emerging brands—not just in terms of their pricing and margins, but also their packaging, consumer engagement strategies, and speed of penetration. Our approach must be data-driven and flexible, ensuring that we adapt quickly with smart trade offers, strong visibility campaigns, and relationship-driven retail engagement. The essence of winning in the market lies in proactive monitoring, competitor benchmarking, and timely tactical responses that protect our brand's space while building long-term loyalty among retailers and consumers."

We’ve sold products worth 11 crore for our eCom brand so far, all thanks to our design research process. I started Kalmin Ross (a premium men’s shirts brand) in 2021, and very quickly learnt one thing: Anybody can manufacture and sell a shirt. But few people really understand what the market wants. Quality is an obvious element, which we had on lock due to our own manufacturing facility. But the big question mark was design. We had to figure out what was in-demand, as this is what would sell our products. Nailing this helped us grow quickly, and here’s how we did this: ▶ 1. Facebook Ad Library This allows us to analyse what products our competitors are pushing. We look for patterns in colour schemes, imagery, ad copy, and calls to action to identify trends. ▶ 2. Similarweb It provides insights into the website traffic of competitor brands. Analysing these websites gives us an understanding of what products are getting the most traction. ▶ 3. Spyfu Spyfu allows us to research competitor keywords, ad copies, and PPC strategies. This shows us what they’re bidding on, highlighting market potential. ▶ 4. Pinterest We focus on popular pins, curated boards, and user-generated content to identify emerging trends and unique design concepts. ▶ 5. AdSpy Similar to some of the tools mentioned earlier, this is an advertising intelligence tool that helps us analyse Facebook and Instagram ads. By combining insights from these tools, our team of designers always create fashion-forward and timeless designs that have worked very well for us. If you’re thinking of starting an eCom brand (or run one already), steal these tools to find out where the money is! Would you add any other tools to this list? #ecommerce #fashion #entrepreneurship

🔍 Competition analysis- 2 critical words that you need to take seriously! Here's a framework for conducting competitive analysis that goes beyond surface-level research: 1. Start With the Right Mindset - Don't just track what competitors do – understand WHY they do it - Focus on patterns, not individual actions - Look for gaps they're missing, not just what they're doing well 2. Map Their Customer Experience - Shadow their customer journey as a mystery shopper - Document every touchpoint from awareness to post-purchase - Note emotional highs and lows throughout the experience - Identify where they excel and where they drop the ball 3. Follow the Money Trail - Analyze their pricing strategy and positioning - Track promotional patterns and discount strategies - Monitor their expansion into new markets/products - Study their customer retention tactics 4. Decode Their Digital Footprint - Set up Google Alerts for competitor news - Use tools like SimilarWeb to track traffic sources - Monitor their social media engagement patterns - Analyze their content strategy and messaging evolution 5. Talk to Their Customers - Read customer reviews across platforms - Join industry forums where their customers gather - Conduct win/loss analysis with shared prospects - Identify common pain points and satisfaction drivers 🔑 PS: Create a "Competition Dashboard" that tracks these metrics monthly. Look for trends, not just data points. 💡 Remember that the goal isn't to copy your competition – it's to understand the market deeply enough to chart your brand's own unique path forward.
