    🚘Strategic Partnerships: The New Horsepower Driving the Automotive Industry – #IAA2025   The future of the automotive industry is not being built in isolation. It is being co-created through bold, strategic partnerships that define who will thrive in this age of transformation.   The newly published #MHP Mobility Study 2025 shows: partnerships are increasingly becoming a decisive factor for competitiveness. While 73% of US manufacturers and 57% of Chinese players already see partnerships as absolutely critical to their success, just over half (52%) of European companies share the same conviction.   Europe is on the right track – but still has room to catch up if it wants to keep pace in global competition.   We see this vividly at IAA MOBILITY 2025 in Munich, where the spotlight is on software alliances shaping the future of the software-defined vehicle. This is where partnerships unlock the true impact: faster innovation, smarter platforms, and a collaborative edge in global competition.   What strikes me most in the study is the difference in mindset: while US players leverage partnerships as an engine of innovation, too many European companies still focus primarily on cost-cutting and risk-sharing.   It’s time to shift the lens. Partnerships must be about technological leaps, market access, and growth.     Agents can now write directly to Figma. Not read. Write. MCP gives agents structured access to design files. Not screenshots, not pixel inference. Structured data: components, variables, layout relationships, tokens. Your design file becomes something an agent can parse, reference, and act on. It turns design artifacts from visual references into operational inputs. Two tools worth understanding. → use_figma lets an agent create and modify things directly on the Figma canvas: components, layouts, token values. It runs JavaScript through the Plugin API. If you can do it with a plugin, an agent can now do it programmatically. → generate_figma_design does something different. It takes real UI from code and brings it into Figma as editable layers. Not a flattened screenshot. Editable, structured layers you can work with. Together, these create a workflow loop. Code informs canvas, canvas informs code. One builds on the canvas using Figma’s native structures. The other bridges from implementation back into design. Both directions matter. The part most people miss: Skills. Tools are capabilities. Skills are something else entirely. A skill is an orchestration layer. It defines how an agent uses tools: what rules it follows, what constraints it respects, what system context it operates within. The difference between giving someone a hammer and giving them a hammer plus a blueprint plus building codes. → Some skills create: generate a design from a spec, generate a component library from tokens. → Some skills enforce alignment: apply your system’s rules, sync tokens between code and Figma. → Some skills validate: audit spacing against your scale, check voice and tone in UI copy. These aren’t competing. Creation and validation are complementary. You generate, then you audit. The workflow mirrors what good teams already do. It’s just executable now. Here’s the shift that matters. Your design system is no longer just documentation. It’s the rule set agents execute against. Agents don’t interpret intent. They don’t infer what you probably meant. They execute exactly what’s defined. Could an agent use your design system right now, without asking a single clarifying question? If not, the issue isn’t the agent.

According to Threekit, 40% of people are more likely to buy products online when they can use AR to see what it would look and feel like. One outstanding collaboration of AR in fashion was that of Syky, a digital fashion platform, and Japanese brand Anrealage. Together, they're using augmented reality to create designs you can interact with and walk around in near-magical ways. Syky created an app that lets people experience the iconic outfits by Anrealage in stunning 3D. The Pyramid Dress, inspired by Beyoncé's dress, is a perfect example. You can see it change colors and all the little details right before your eyes in AR. Augmented reality isn't only visually appealing but also practical. DeepGears already proved that virtual try-on tools helped reduce return rates by 25% Brands are lowering their carbon footprint due to a decreased need for physical samples. It’s a win for sustainability. It's no surprise that 71% of Gen Z and Millennials now favor brands that provide AR experiences, according to artlabs. This technology allows them to personalize their fashion choices at any time, merging innovation with individual expression. But that’s not all there is. The world of augmented reality has impacted fashion events too. Attendance during virtual fashion weeks is now 300% higher than during traditional shows. This proves that the inclination towards digital engagement is here to stay.     This is the most important advice I gave to the class of #design students from the Delft University of Technology last week: When building an #XR prototype start by defining a clear question you want to answer: - Where will the user be once the experience starts? - How do you manage the user's attention in a #3D space? - How do you communicate certain affordances like objects that can be picked up (or not) or places that can be explored (or not)? - What will be the rough series of events the user will go through? Starting by building the "whole thing" too early will lead you to "expensive" tools like Unity, Blender or Unreal (from a time and learning curve perspective) before you have figure out and agreed on foundational aspects of your experience. This is true for students but it is also a common pitfall of more seasoned #XR teams too eager to jump into game engines without realizing the costs of rebuilding something once you realize it doesn't work well when experienced spatially. This is the main reason why I strongly believe ShapesXR is the best tool for that initial stage of design and ideation, and the fact the various groups were able to build simple environments and interactions (with sounds and haptics included 🤯) in less than 2 hours without having prior experience in Shapes is a testament to that.

    I experimented with a workflow that combines Gravity Sketch, mixed reality, and Runway's Gen-3 video-to-video AI and got some impressive results, here is what I did: 🚀 Step 1: Using Gravity Sketch in VR, I designed stasis tubes with humanoid figures inside. I placed these models throughout my hallway, integrating them into the real space, using mixed reality mode on my Meta Quest 3 headset. 🎥 Step 2: I filmed myself walking through this mixed reality set, holding a 3D object, capturing my real environment with the 3D models layered in. This gave a first-person view of the scene, as if I were navigating through an alien ship. 🧪 Step 3: Finally, I ran the footage through Runway’s Gen-3 video-to-video AI, using prompts to transform the scene into a space marine navigating an alien ship, complete with eerie stasis tubes and ambient sound effects to drive the atmosphere home. A fast, intuitive way to pre-visualize complex scenes that would otherwise take much longer to design and film traditionally. What this means for creative workflows: 🔹Advanced Storyboarding: With mixed reality, you can set up rough models and get a realistic sense of scale and positioning. You can actually walk through you scene, interacting with it and capturing raw footage directly. 🔹 Quick Pre-Visualization: Using video-to-video genAI, this rough footage can quickly be transformed into something more. It’s a great way to experiment with looks, check in with your client vision, and even lighting before diving into final production. 🔹 Future-Ready Workflows: As video-to-video AI improves, this workflow won’t just be for pre-viz. We’re looking at a future where you could create final-quality outputs straight from this setup, acting out scenes in a mixed reality environment while the AI enhances and polishes everything in real time. Moving towards final generated outputs vs rendered. This opens up a lot of possibilities. You could set up a mixed reality scene, interact with it, and create an entire short film without needing a massive crew or extensive post-production. For now, it’s a powerful way to prototype, storyboard, and explore creative concepts quickly and intuitively. ❓Curious about how mixed reality and AI could transform your creative process?     From GenAI to GenUI We’re witnessing a shift as significant as the leap from MS-DOS to graphical user interfaces. The AI era marks our latest upgrade in how we interact with technology. For decades, we designed for workflows and specific actions. Everything was deterministic. Behind every interface sat a flowchart, with logic carefully coded. The backend made decisions, and the frontend rendered them. This model worked because we could predict every path a user might take. With agents, this paradigm breaks down. Text alone isn’t sufficient anymore. Chat works for conversation, but interaction demands something more. We need to engage with agents, not just talk to them. Reasoning state and intent become critical factors in the exchange. LLMs can now generate UI, and this capability feels like natural progression. Model Context Protocol enables mini-apps to emerge on the fly, no longer bound by deterministic rules. This opens the door to genuine hyper-personalization. We’ve moved from designing screens to designing for outcomes. Agents now dynamically assemble workflows based on intent, available data, and accessible tools. The fact that agents can create interfaces without traditional designers and developers is revolutionary. We can finally shift from UI-centric thinking to truly user-centered experience design. This fundamentally transforms the designer’s role. We’re no longer pixel pushers or interface assemblers. The work of arranging buttons, spacing elements, and crafting individual screens can now be handled by agents. Instead, designers become architects of experience, defining the principles, guardrails, and intent that shape how agents respond. We set the boundaries of possibility, orchestrate the logic of interaction, and ensure coherence across dynamic, personalized experiences. Our canvas expands from static screens to adaptive systems. We design the intelligence behind the interface, the relationships between user needs and agent capabilities, the quality standards that govern generated UIs. We curate outcomes rather than outputs. The ability to adapt, reorganize, and respond to both user intent and application context is transformative. With reasoning and action combined, agents can generate dynamic artifacts that enable interaction, not merely conversation. What a time to be alive as a designer! 🫶 #ai
