TL;DR: BoldCreate Cloud Agent Automations helps development teams automate recurring coding tasks and respond to repository events without manually starting every run. Configure triggers, select repositories or environments, define instructions, and choose the tools the agent can use. Test automations before enabling them, then monitor execution and review proposed changes through tasks and pull requests.

Turn Repetitive Development Tasks into Automated Workflows

Investigating failed CI checks, reviewing pull requests, updating dependencies, and responding to monitoring alerts are essential development activities. However, repeatedly handling these tasks manually can interrupt feature development and consume engineering time.

BoldCreate Cloud Agent Automations lets you define these routines once and run them automatically when a schedule, code event, or external system triggers them.

You choose where the agent works, what instructions it follows, and which tools it can use. Each run executes in its own isolated cloud sandbox and appears as a task in your sidebar, allowing you to inspect the result or continue the conversation.

Automations run unattended, so clear instructions and appropriate trigger conditions are important. When an automation produces code changes, your team can review the resulting pull request before merging.

How BoldCreate Automations Work

Every automation follows four configuration steps and produces a task when it runs.

  • When: Choose a schedule, code event, or webhook. You can configure multiple triggers, and any one can start a run.
  • Where: Select the repositories and branches or an environment where the agent should work.
  • Do: Define the task instructions and optionally choose a model and thinking effort.
  • With: Configure additional capabilities, such as Memory, opening pull requests, or commenting on pull requests.
  • Then: Open the resulting task in your sidebar to inspect the agent’s work or continue the conversation.

Because automated runs don’t stop to ask questions, specify what the agent should inspect, what qualifies as an issue, and what action it should take.

Create an Automation Your Way

BoldCreate provides four ways to get started.

Describe it in a sentence: Explain the task in natural language and select Draft it. BoldCreate generates a configuration for you to review before saving.

Use a recipe: Start with a ready-made automation for a common engineering task, then customize its repository, instructions, and configuration.

Start blank: Create an automation from scratch and configure its trigger, working location, instructions, and tools.

Import JSON: Recreate an automation using JSON previously copied from BoldCreate.

For repository-based work, connect your Git account through the Integrations page before configuring the automation.

What Can You Automate?

Built-in recipes provide starting points for common engineering tasks, including:

  • Finding critical bugs and adding test coverage.
  • Generating documentation and updating dependencies.
  • Reviewing pull requests and finding vulnerabilities.
  • Fixing failing CI checks.
  • Responding to monitoring alerts.
  • Triaging CI failures and investigating new tickets.

Each recipe provides an initial configuration that you can adapt to your development workflow.

Configure the Right Trigger

Triggers determine when an automation starts.

Scheduled automations

Run tasks every hour, day, weekday, or week, or configure a custom cron expression using your selected time zone. For example, schedule an automation to inspect recent commits or update dependencies every Monday. Scheduled automations run at most once per hour.

Code-event automations

Start runs when supported repository events occur, including pull requests being opened, comments being added, reviews being submitted, and pull-request checks failing.

Use Only run if conditions to filter events by supported fields, such as the base branch, head branch, author, title, labels, or draft status. Code-event triggers require the appropriate GitHub app setup for your organization.

Webhook automations

Connect external systems that can send HTTP POST requests, such as CI pipelines and monitoring tools.

For example, a monitoring alert can trigger an automation to investigate relevant code and propose a fix when appropriate.

Webhook requests require a configured key. BoldCreate also supports body-pattern filtering and applies request-size, execution-rate, and duplicate-request safeguards.

Test and Monitor Automated Runs

Before enabling an automation, use Test run to check its behavior.

  1. Save the automation so the configuration is current.
  2. Select Test run.
  3. For a code-event automation, provide a pull-request number or URL when prompted.
  4. Start the test and inspect the resulting task.
  5. Update the instructions and test again if necessary.

The test interface shows whether the run is in progress, completed, failed, or cancelled. BoldCreate supports up to 10 test runs per hour.

After enabling an automation, open its Activity tab to review recent runs, their triggers, statuses, and failure reasons. You can open individual tasks to inspect the agent’s work and filter activity to find events that didn’t run.

A successful run means execution ended without an error; it doesn’t guarantee that the proposed code is correct. Review findings and pull requests before merging changes.

Manage Automations with Confidence

You can manage an automation throughout its lifecycle:

  • Turn it on or off: Control whether it runs automatically. An automation that is off can still be tested.
  • Edit: Update its name, configuration, instructions, or tools.
  • Duplicate: Create a copy that starts disabled, ready for customization.
  • Copy as JSON: Export an automation configuration for reuse through BoldCreate’s import workflow.
  • Delete: Remove the automation, including its memory and activity. Past runs remain in your task history.

If an automation turns itself off, check the reason displayed on its card or in the builder, correct the underlying issue, and enable it again.

Best Practices for Reliable Automations

  • Write precise instructions. Explain what to check, what counts as a problem, and what to do with the result.
  • Test before activation. Validate the configuration before enabling unattended execution.
  • Filter unnecessary events. Add Only run if conditions to prevent irrelevant repository activity from starting runs.
  • Use Memory where appropriate. Retain useful context between runs when a recurring task should avoid repeating previous work.
  • Protect webhook keys. Store keys securely and rotate them if exposed.
  • Review proposed changes. Inspect pull requests and validate results before merging code.

These practices help make automated development tasks more predictable while preserving engineering oversight.
